Learn how the female body changes during a post-hysterectomy prolapse

myProlapse is an interactive patient education resource depicting the anatomy of a post-hysterectomy prolapse (enterocele).

What is Enterocele?

Enterocele is a type of pelvic organ prolapse in which weakened pelvic floor muscles cause a peritoneal sac containing the small intestines to herniate into the vaginal wall. Enterocele is strongly associated with a past history of hysterectomy.

Who is myProlapse for?

myProlapse was primarily developed for healthcare providers to use as a visual aid during counseling to educate post-hysterectomy patients on the anatomy of their prolapse. Patients can also use the mobile app to educate family and friends regarding their condition.

Why use myProlapse?

• Accuracy:
The 3D models were segmented from a de-identified CT urogram and MRI pelvis from a female diagnosed with enterocele post-hysterectomy. Therefore, these models accurately represent the anatomy of enterocele.

• Increase Public Awareness:
There are a lot of misconceptions regarding pelvic organ prolapse. As a result, patients have a lot of anxiety, stress, shame, embarrassment, and fear surrounding their condition. We hope to increase public awareness regarding prolapse by filling in knowledge gaps with this mobile app.

Key Features:
• Supports English and Spanish
• Interact with the Model: Rotate, pan, & zoom
• Learn about Structures in the Pelvis: Tap each structure to read about it
• Animation: Watch how the body changes during a post-hysterectomy prolapse
• Prevention: Read how to prevent a prolapse

This mobile app was developed by Yuna K. Park (Class of 2020) for her Capstone Project in the Master of Science in Modern Human Anatomy Program at the University of Colorado Anschutz Medical Campus.
